19th Annual Pig on the Pond
There was fun for kids of all ages at Pig in the Pond Community Festival. The 19th annual event offered an array of activities including Pig Racing, live entertainment, carnival games and rides, fireworks and a large assortment of food and drink.
More than 50 local businesses, 20 non-profit organizations and numerous volunteers participated in the 3-day event at Waterfront Park, Clermont. Pig on the Pond is a not for profit program providing 4-year college scholarships and mentorship to deserving high school graduates living full-time in south Lake County. The Program has awarded more than $800,000 to hundreds of south Lake students since 1998.
Over the past 19 years, the event has grown in size and popularity. The growing crowds became increasingly difficult to manage, says Cheryl Fishel, event manager. To improve the flow of traffic, Disney engineers were called in to help plan traffic flow. The outcome has been positive.
The event is over except for the aftermath. For the past few days, Cheryl has been at Waterfront Park making sure the property is as it appeared before the event. Her next step is to determine attendance numbers and amount raised. However, judging by the crowd of smiling faces attending Pig in the Pond, it was a fantastic success.
