Clermont gymnast Brayden Bates, age 10, participated in the 2017 USA Gymnastics Men’s State Championships in Clearwater March 10-12.
Bates competed as a level 5 and finished first on the pommel horse, high bar, and parallel bars, completing the state championships by winning the All-Around competition. His superior performance earned him a place in the 2017 USA Gymnastics Men’s Regional Championship. The regional championships will be held in Daytona Beach April 21st-23rd and will host gymnasts from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee
When Brayden’s proud father Timothy was asked if his son could be a future Olympian, he smiled and replied, “You never know”.
Brayden has been training for only 2 years but is following in his mother’s footsteps admitted Timothy. She was an All-American gymnast on the University of Alabama’s NCAA championship team in 1996.
Brayden was born and lives in south Lake County. The young athlete trains at Gymnastics USA. He states he is happy the hard work paid off and can’t wait until regionals.
