It took more than 15 years in the making but; on a sunny Saturday morning, it happened!  The City of Minneola, in conjunction with Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise, Family Dynamics, and Lake County government officials, announced the grand opening of the new Minneola Turnpike Interchange at Milepost 278 in Minneola.

The celebration was kicked-off by Minneola Mayor Pat Kelley and speakers Congressman Daniel Webster, Lake County Commission Chairman Tim Sullivan, Turnpike Executive Director Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, Lisa Jensen representing Family Dynamics, Inc., and Larry Metz, Florida House Representative.

Mayors Gail Ash, Clermont; Karen McMican, Groveland; Joe Wynkoop, Montverde; city councilmen, and South Lake Chamber of Commerce representatives were just a few who participated in the ribbon cutting on Saturday, June 10th.

The new interchange will give access from the Turnpike to the Clermont and Minneola communities and reduce travel congestion on SR 50 and 27.

The developer, Family Dynamics Land Co., donated the 200-acre parcel for the interchange and funded a connector road. The interchange is located in the middle of Family Dynamics’ Hills of Minneola, which will bring an estimated 4,000 homes, commercial uses, and schools to the area.

Prior to the ceremony, a 5K fun-run took place in memory of Christa Deason, a public information officer at Florida Department of Transportation, who was described as instrumental in driving the project to fruition.
