The Friends of Lake Louisa State Park invite you to attend the next installment of their speaker series on Friday, August 25th at 7pm. The topic of this presentation will be “Conservation Around the World: A Local Clermont Resident’s Adventures in Africa Working with African Falcon Services”. Christy Conk, President of the Friends of Lake Louisa State Park, will share stories and photos of her work with African Falcon Services using animal training to environmentally protect sorghum crops, the main staple food source for the country of Botswana, over the past two years. By utilizing trained lanner falcons and peregrine minor falcons to abate red-billed quelea (a finch-like species that arrives in the millions to consume and decimate this precious crop) it is possible to protect the crops without harming the quelea.
Space is limited for this presentation. Please call 352-394-3969 to reserve your seat. This presentation is a free event open to the public. Lake Louisa State Park is located at 7305 US Highway 27, Clermont, FL 34714. We look forward to seeing you on the 25th!
