Orlando-based Coliseum of Comics, the largest comics and collectibles retailer in the Southeast, announced the opening of a new store in Clermont. The 1500-square-foot store, located at 1730 E Highway 50, will become the seventh location in the locally-owned chain, and the second affiliate store owned by Aaron Holland.
“I’ve been a Clermont resident for over six years, and am very excited to finally bring a Coliseum location to a part of Central Florida that I love,” said Holland. “We’re looking forward to meeting new people and getting involved with the community and schools.”
The new location, like the other six stores in the chain, will deal in not just new comics, back issues, and graphic novels, but also toys, other collectibles, and board games and role-playing games.
Comic books have been propelled to the front ranks of pop culture; many being adapted into movies and television, from the recent record-breaking Wonder Woman to the blockbuster Avengers, Deadpool and X-Men franchises to AMC’s ratings juggernaut The Walking Dead to the many hit network and Netflix series like Arrow, The Flash, Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Many hit television, video game, motion picture and book properties have made a leap the other direction into comics, with graphic adaptations and additions to the worlds of Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Disney’s Figment and Haunted Mansion properties.
The Clermont store will be managed by Daniel Sandoval, a long-time employee with Coliseum, who most recently served as Assistant Manager in the chain’s Fashion Square Mall location.
“Having served the Central Florida area for over five years, I’m eager to share my passion of comics, gaming, and more with our Clermont community,” Sandoval said.
A date for the store’s Grand Opening celebration will be announced soon.
