Every woman and girl of a certain age knows the story of Sleeping Beauty and how the angry witch tricked her into pricking her finger on a spinning wheel.  But, how many know exactly how a spinning wheel works?

Come to Clermont’s Historic Village on Saturday, November 4th to find out!  That is the date of the South Lake County Historical Society’s first Heritage Day.  On that day the Village will be open from 10 am until 4 pm with demonstrations of crafts and chores occurring throughout the day.  See friends and members of the Historical Society as they make ice cream, churn butter, “wash” and “iron” clothes, drive nails and much, much more.  You might even get a chance to join in!  There will also be musical performances and antique vehicles on display.

Located at 490 West Ave., on the shores of Lake Minneola and close to the historic downtown shopping district, the Historic Village is a unique partnership between the City of Clermont and the South Lake County Historical Society.  Together they work to provide the citizens of South Lake County with the opportunity to experience what life was like in Florida from the late 1800’s until the end of World War II.  If you would like to see the Village before November, it is open every Friday from 1 pm to 3:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm.   If you are interested in touring the Village with a small group during the week when it is not regularly scheduled to be open, contact the Village Manager, Roxanne Brown, at 352-593-8496 to schedule a time.  Admission to the Village is free, however, a donation of $2.00 per adult is requested.  After touring the Village, please like us on Facebook.
