Superintendent Diane Kornegay, M.Ed., surprised two school administrators with great news this week. With flowers in hand, she announced in person that East Ridge Middle School Principal Stephanie Mayuski is the district’s new Principal of the Year, and Eustis Middle School Assistant Principal Abigail Crosby is the district’s new Assistant Principal of the Year.
Mayuski now qualifies to be considered for the statewide Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership, and Crosby qualifies to be considered for the statewide Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement Award. The programs honor leaders who have spearheaded initiatives to increase student performance and promote safe learning environments, often through partnerships with parents and community members.
Among Mayuski’s many accomplishments are her efforts to raise the state grade at East Ridge Middle School from a “C” to an “A” in 2016-17.
She joined the district in 2000 as a teacher at South Lake High School, was promoted to Assistant Principal in 2008 at Cecil E. Gray Middle School, and worked as AP at Pine Ridge Elementary before taking on the role of principal there. She became principal at East Ridge Middle in 2016.
Crosby, in her nomination packet, was praised for managing all aspects of curriculum and other duties at Eustis Middle including the master schedule, community relations, content support, website management and mentoring other staff members.
Crosby joined the district as a teacher in 2005. She taught at Leesburg High, Oak Park Middle and Umatilla High before being promoted to Assistant Principal at Windy Hill Middle. She moved to Eustis Middle in 2017.
