On Saturday, October 21, the East Ridge High School girls’ cross-country team competed in the Windermere High School Invitational at Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont. Lake Louisa was a beautiful setting for the morning’s race as the course was on the equestrian trails of the state park.  The temperature and weather conditions made for a great atmosphere for the last meet of the cross country regular season.

Girls from ten different schools competed in the Windermere High School Invitational.  The girls’ race went off at 8 am sharp.  Junior Alexis Hill ran her second best time of the season. She placed 8th in a field of 84 female runners and finished in a time of 21:35.  The second Knight to finish was sophomore Reagan Parks. Reagan followed her teammate across the finish line and placed 9th overall in a time of 21:54. The third Knight to finish was freshman Mackenzie Hill. Mackenzie placed 19th overall in a time of 22:50.  Alexis, Reagan, and Mackenzie are hopeful that their success in the regular season will carry into their district meet next Saturday.  The trio hope to do well enough at districts, so they can qualify for regionals.  If they do, they will be the first girls to qualify for regionals since 2015. The Class 4A Region 1 state series meet is scheduled for Friday, November 3, at the Flagler County Fairgrounds in Bunnell, Florida.

The fourth runner for the Knights was junior Eliya Anderson.  Eliya placed 51 overall and posted a time of 25:51.  The fifth runner for the girls’ varsity team was sophomore Valeria Gutierrez.  Valeria placed 73rd in a time of 29:26 to round out the Knights’ scoring positions. Sophomore Asia Raulerson finished sixth for the Knights. She placed 75th with a time of 29:48. Junior Haley Dykstra finished seventh for the Knights. She placed 82nd overall with a time of 32:57.

As a team, the East Ridge girls came in fifth out of ten scoring teams. The South Lake Community wishes our East Ridge High School girls’ cross-country team best of luck at Districts.
