Are you an “ordinary woman?” If you are humming tunes in the car or singing songs in your shower, you may just be what SLACkers are in search of. Women of high school age and above who enjoy singing are invited to preview a local A capella chorus.

Now in the formative stage, South Lake A capella Chorus, or SLACkers, as they have dubbed themselves in jest, wants to meet your voice. The chorus meets most Thursday evenings from 7-9pm in the choir room at Oakland Presbyterian Church, 218 Oakland Boulevard, Oakland, which is centrally located to West Orange and South Lake counties.

During the building process and beyond, members will gain knowledge of the barbershop and doo-wop styles, with explicit instruction by expert Director Ludmila Hemmings. You don’t need to read music or have a terrific solo voice, just an interest. There is no obligation to come, listen and join in. SLACkers is in hopes of soon being chartered as a chorus in Harmony Inc.
