Real Life Christian Academy (RLCA) is proud to announce that 12thgrade student, Lucas Patterson, participated in Signing Day on April 19, officially declaring his intent to play baseball for Belmont Abbey in Belmont, North Carolina. He has been recruited to play the position of catcher on the Crusader’s baseball team, a Division II school.
Patterson played baseball at RLCA for one year in the positions of catcher and occasionally, pitcher. Coach Koronka was impressed by the talent, natural athleticism and passion that Patterson had for the game and enjoyed having him as part of the team. The varsity Raptor team won a state championship in the 2015-16 year and Patterson’s involvement was a factor in team’s success.
“We are thrilled that Lucas has earned this opportunity with Belmont Abbey,” said Michael Fernandes, RLCA head of school. “I believe that Real Life Christian Academy has helped prepare him for the next steps he will be taking. Through his drive, determination and faith, he has a clear path to achieve his goals of academic excellence and playing baseball in college.”
In the 2016-17 athletic season, RLCA joined the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), the governing body of high school athletics in Florida. This change allowed the RLCA athletic program to compete with larger public and private schools and in this first year in the association, RLCA has risen to the challenge that this move has presented to have a competitive first year in the new division.
“I will be studying criminal justice at Belmont,” said Mr. Patterson. “I’m looking forward to being more independent and meeting new people in college, but I know I will have to balance quite a bit between my studies and an aggressive baseball schedule. I want to thank my family, my coaches and God for helping me get here to enjoy have this amazing opportunity.”
The entire RLCA family congratulates Lucas Patterson on his achievement!
