Event number 213 – This Saturday’s parkrun 5K took place under rather brisk but dry conditions.  While gloves, hats and scarfs were in fashion and there may have been a muffled complaint or two, nevertheless, the participants were thankful to be in Florida and not braving the ice, snow and subfreezing temperatures indicative of the more northern events.  There were 77 intrepid souls participating; ten of them registered personal bests.

Local regular Kevin Grogan running for Team S4 broke the 20-minute mark finishing first at 19:47.  Colton Cardewell running for the AAA Tri-Team crossed the line at 20:01 finishing second.  Close behind at 20:03 was AAA Tri-Team mate and first woman finisher Kendyl Cardwell.  Wayne Wheeler set a new personal best coming in at 20:06 finishing 4th overall.  Visiting from Aberdeen, Scotland was Alison Pilichos at 20:35 for the second woman to finish; 5th place overall.  The third female finisher was Sharon Gallant who placed 6th overall with a time of 20:41.

Clermont’s parkrun is free because it entirely staffed by volunteers.  Saturday’s event was made possible by 8 volunteers: Toni Richardson, Travis Hoffman, Josh Castleman, Yolimar Bolivar, Jim Pickering, Harry Barnes, • Kay Melvin-Barnes, and Ron Mitchell.  If you have not volunteered lately, there are plenty of opportunities to help out in the coming weeks.  Sign up at a parkrun or contact the volunteer coordinator at clermontwaterfrontoffice@parkrun.com
