The East Ridge High School boys’ basketball team finished its regular season this past Thursday with a 69 – 53 win against Forest High School from Ocala. The Knights closed out the last few weeks of the season with five wins and three losses. After defeating Winter Park in the Metro Vs. Florida Challenge, the Knights dropped two games the following week.
The first loss came at home on Tuesday, January 16 against Eustis High School, which was the second contest between the Panthers of Eustis and the Knights of East Ridge. Eustis defeated East Ridge with a score of 80 – 60. Eustis and East Ridge split wins in their two contests this season.
Later that week, on January 18, the Knights of East Ridge dropped a game at home to the Knights of Ocoee. The 58 – 54 district loss was East Ridge’s second district loss of the season. East Ridge and Ocoee split wins in their two contests this season.
The following week, on January 25, East Ridge traveled to play in a district game against cross-town rival Lake Minneola. East Ridge defeated Lake Minneola with a score of 55 – 50. East Ridge defeated Lake Minneola in both of their contests this season.
The following night, the Knights traveled to Ocala to play against Forest High School in the first of two contests this season. The Wildcats of Forest edged out the Knights 60 – 58.
The following week was a heavy schedule for the Knights, as they played three games. The first of the week was on Tuesday, January 30 at home against Foundation High School from Winter Garden. The Knights cruised past Foundation with a 69 – 43 win.
On Thursday, February 1 the Knights traveled to Lake Howell High School in their final district game of the regular season. In a close game, the Knights traveled to Casselberry and defeated Lake Howell in overtime 68 – 66. The win against Lake Howell secured East Ridge the second place spot in the district tournament.
The next night, Friday, February 2, the Knights played host to district rival Windermere High School in a non-district game. East Ridge defeated Windermere 49 – 45. East Ridge defeated Windermere in both of their contests this season.
The Knights finished their regular season with a record of 18 wins and 5 losses. They finished their district schedule with a record of 5 wins and 2 losses. The Knights secured the second seed in next week’s district tournament.
Next week’s Class 8A District 5 tournament will be hosted at Ocoee High School – last season’s district champion. The first night of district games will be played on Monday, February 12. Fourth place West Port will play fifth-place Lake Minneola at 4:00 pm. First place Edgewater will play eighth place East River at 5:30 pm. Second place East Ridge will play seventh lace Lake Howell at 7:00 PM. Third place Windermere will play sixth place Ocoee at 8:30 pm.
The semi-final games will be played on Wednesday, February 14. The winner of the Edgewater/East River game will play the winner of the West Port/Lake Minneola game. The winner of the East Ridge/Lake Howell game will play the winner of the Windermere/Ocoee game.
The Class 8A District 5 Championship will be played on Friday, February 16. The district champion and the district runner-up will play the following week in regional quarterfinal games.
