The sights, sounds and aromas of Juneteenth will again fill the air at Waterfront Park on Saturday, June 15 as the Clermont community celebrates with the nation for the third year in a row.

Hosted by the City of Clermont and the South Lake Lincoln Park Alliance, the celebration of freedom begins at 5 pm and admission is free.

Declared a national holiday in 2021 by President Biden, Juneteenth stems from the 2- year delayed freedom of more than 250,000 slaves in Galveston, Texas after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.

Cultural music, art, and dance festivities will begin at 5 pm at Waterfront Park, 300 3rd Street. Vendors featuring art, culinary delights, and educational activities will be on hand, and local pastors will offer a special invocation.

Students were invited to express their thoughts on Juneteenth’s meaning in art or essay form and winners from three age groups will be announced.

Special thanks to the Lincoln Park South Lake Alliance for its guidance and premier sponsors, Kroger, McCoy Federal Credit Union and the Montgomery Center for Excellence, along with Florida Sports Injury and Orthopedic Institute, Janney Roofing, Orlando Health – South Lake Hospital, Oviedo-Clermont Roofing, Lojo Family McDonalds and Insight Credit Union who make events such as this possible.
