A bill for National Garden Week was introduced in the US in 1981, and the bill was subsequently passed and signed by President Reagan in 1986 via proclamation. Following are excerpts from that proclamation: “Gardening is a wholesome advocation that encourages appreciation for nature preservation and enhancement of our environment…Gardening provides a special source of fulfillment when foresight, patience, and collaboration with soil and sunlight finally are repaid by lovely flowers and luscious harvests.”

The Clermont Garden Club celebrates National Garden Week with the creation of a fun and colorful window display at Cooper Memorial Library. Pictured from left to right are Club members: Gail Saunders, Rob and Robin Farmer, Donna Clement and Helen Ribbe.
