On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the South Lake Democrats will host a peaceful demonstration at Center Lake Park to stand up for democracy and speak out against authoritarianism. The event begins at 10:00 AM and invites community members to bring bold, creative signs and plenty of energy to reaffirm a simple but powerful message: “We are a democracy, not a monarchy.”
Participants will gather along State Road 50 at Center Lake Park, located between 8th Street and West Avenue. The demonstration is part of a broader effort to engage the public in civic dialogue and promote democratic values in the face of rising political tensions.
“Our goal is to remind the community of the foundational principles of our government,” said a representative from the South Lake Democrats. “We welcome all who share our commitment to freedom, fairness, and peaceful expression.”
Organizers stress that the event is grounded in nonviolent action. Attendees are expected to remain respectful, peaceful, and to de-escalate any tensions that may arise from counter-demonstrations or disagreements.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring sunscreen, water, and signs that express their dedication to democratic ideals. Public parking is available throughout Historic Downtown Clermont. Attendees are asked not to park in the church parking lot adjacent to the event. A map showing available parking can be found here.
For safety reasons, attendees should avoid crossing State Road 50, which is known for heavy traffic. Street parking is available on the north side of SR 50 near Center Lake Park.
The South Lake Democrats invite all members of the community who support democracy to join them in this visible, peaceful show of unity.
