This week, Lake County joins communities across the nation in a powerful tribute to civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis — and a renewed call to action for justice and democracy.

On Thursday, July 17, Lake County Indivisibles will host the first of two public events in Clermont as part of the national “Good Trouble Lives On” campaign — a movement inspired by the late Congressman John Lewis’ enduring message to make “good trouble, necessary trouble.”

The local action kicks off Thursday evening with a Good Trouble Sign Waving event from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at Center Lake Park, Clermont, l

ocated along State Road 50 between West Avenue and 8th Street. Participants will raise their voices and signs in peaceful demonstration, standing united against ongoing attacks on voting rights, civil liberties, and public programs.

The momentum continues on Saturday, July 19, with a Good Trouble Rally and Marchat Clermont City Hall (685 W. Montrose Street) from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Organizers invite the entire community to march in solidarity and celebrate the legacy of those who paved the way for progress.

The events are part of a national day of peaceful, nonviolent action — one of hundreds taking place across the country — rooted in the legacy of the civil rights movement and the enduring spirit of John Lewis.

Local advocates are calling on residents to join in demanding an end to the growing wave of authoritarian efforts to suppress the freedom to vote, protest, and organize. The gatherings aim to spotlight the importance of civic engagement and the defense of hard-earned rights.
