]]> Doris Bloodsworth, local historian and Pulitzer nominated journalist, has been speaking and piquing the interest of local groups throughout the South Lake community. Bloodsworth and members of the Cooper Memorial Library Board have been busily updating the original work on Clermont’s history, “Clermont, Gem of the Hills.”  The original work came out in 1984 as a part of the centennial celebration of Clermont’s founding but only covered up to 1974.  One of the most important events in the shaping of Clermont, as we know it today, occurred after the book was published—the freezes of the 1980s that destroyed entire citrus groves. It includes hundreds of rare images and stories revealed for the first time.

The long-awaited “Clermont, From Gem of the Hills to Choice of Champions,” has arrived and will be released this evening, December 2 at 6 pm at Cooper Memorial Library, Clermont.

Pick up your book at the library on Monday, Dec. 2 at 6 pm and see the 1920s film of Clermont. It’s fun to recognize some of the sites and things that once played a part in the vibrant 1920s  Clermont.
