Members from ESA chapters across Florida gathered to share ideas, celebrate achievements, and continue their commitment to service. Local members of Beta Theta were there to share thoughts on the coming year. 

Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) is a dynamic service organization built on the foundation of Good Friends, Good Works, and Good Times. The Orlando Cat Café offers a unique and inviting space where adoptable cats roam freely, allowing visitors to interact with them in a relaxed, home-like environment. Each cat has a distinct personality and story, and the café’s knowledgeable staff is always on hand to answer questions and provide background information. The goal is to match each cat with the most compatible family—creating lifelong bonds that benefit both the pet and their new people.

All felines are spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia and FIV, vaccinated against feline distemper, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and rabies (when age appropriate), dewormed, and treated monthly for fleas, and microchipped.

The members of Beta Theta ESA celebrated Halloween in style, gathering for a spirited evening at Toni Bell’s home. The event, filled with costumes, creative dishes, and good company, truly celebrated Halloween’s playful spirit. Each guest came dressed in unique costumes, ensuring no two were alike, adding to the night’s fun and festive atmosphere. Not only were the costumes diverse, but the snacks were, too; each attendee brought their favorite Halloween snack, making for a delightful variety of treats and flavors. The evening was a lively mix of costumes, laughs, and delicious snacks that showcased the group’s creativity and camaraderie. 

With this Halloween event, Beta Theta ESA continues to foster friendship, fun, and festive spirit among its members. The evening was a wonderful reminder of the joy that comes from gathering together and celebrating the holiday season

The installation was presided over by past presidents Michelle Delaney and Standie Stacy. Terry’s Theme for the Year: Beta Theta’s Never-Ending Story (Reflections of Beta Theta’s last 45 years in the community).

Toni Bell has offered her home for many of the Beta Theta meetings and activities throughout the year. For her loving support of the organization, her home was named Honorary Beta Theta’s Clubhouse.

Lou Ellen Combs was recognized as  Miss Enthusiasm 2023-2024 for her dedication and volunteer involvement throughout the year. She also received her ESA First Pearl, an honor created to help new members become involved in a wide variety of chapter activities. It is given to members who meet the criteria in their first twelve months of membership.

Michelle Delaney was recognized as Beta Theta’s Woman Of The Year and received the Philanthropic Award. The Philanthropy Award recognizes the work of persons in the community who is devoted to the welfare of the community

Outgoing president Michelle Delaney’s theme was “Making the World a Better Place. Before ending her year as Chapter President, she gave each of the members a bracelet with the inscription “You Make The World A Better Place”, a remembrance of a year of caring, good works, and the importance of continuing positive involvement in the community.  

All the proceeds from the 2023 Mardi Gras Celebration were given to local scholarships and community service organizations. It was because of the sponsorships and patrons that this was made possible.

SAVE THE DATE: This year’s Mardi Gras Celebration and Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 10 at the Clermont Performing Arts Center. Members of Beta Theta are planning lots of surprises and changes.

Michelle Delaney was installed as the 2022-2023 Beta Theta president and for her theme chose “Making the World a Better Place”.  She explained, “I believe in myself and the goodness in others.  As long as I remain kind, work hard to benefit our community, and keep smiling, I can make my corner of the world a better place. If others strive for the same, We can make the world a better place!”. 

The 2022-23 Beta Theta’s board members are President, Michelle Delaney; Vice President, Terry Moherek; Secretary, Pat Moore; Treasurer, Diann Lovitt; Parliamentarian, Rosetta Shobe.

Beta Theta-ESA was founded in 1979 as a community service organization. For over 40 years, it has played an active role in the community, providing local scholarships, supporting local 501-c3 and working to make the world a better place.

This year, the event was once again postponed due to Covid restrictions but Beta Theta didn’t lose hope and began preparing for what they called “The BEST EVER Mardi Gras Celebration” scheduled for Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the Clermont Performing Arts Center.  Recently, Michelle Delaney, this year’s event chairperson, sadly announced, “Again, REALLY?  A new variant of COVID, DELTA PLUS is making people really sick and Beta Theta does not want to host a large, inside gathering. We want to bring joy not sickness to the community, thus the decision to postpone the event”. She adds, “It has been rumored that after 17 years, Beta Theta has abandoned its fundraiser, but that’s far from the truth. Mardi Gras will return but in the meantime, we plan to host some safe fun-raisers the won’t jeopardize the health and well-being of our community.

Beta Theta President Sandi Stacy adds, “I have made the tough decision to postpone our signature fundraiser until we can party, sing, eat, and dance in a healthy, joyous and prosperous atmosphere. With the continued rise in Covid Delta variant, our members do not want to jeopardize the health of our sponsors, contributors, supporters and guests. But, fear not, the 17th Beta Theta Mardi Gras will return.  We bless and ask that all of you stay safe and free of this horrible virus that has put Clermont on hold. In the meantime, stay tuned, Beta Theta is planning some fun, safe outdoor fundraisers when the weather cools down a bit”.

Beta Theta was chartered in 1979, raising funds and providing service to the South Lake Community. Over the years Beta Theta has hosted many successful fundraisers to provide scholarships to local High Schools students, as well as a nursing scholarship. Contributions are made to local organizations including Faith Neighborhood Center, Building Blocks Ministries, Boys and Girls Club, Teachers Appreciation, Hospice/Mike Conley House, St. Judes and Greater Clermont Cancer Foundation. They have given hundreds of thousands of dollars to people in need, as well as their many hours of service.
