<div dir="auto">April is Autism Awareness Month a time that calls for more than recognition. It calls for intentional action, compassion, and a commitment to meeting families where they are. As a Councilwoman and as someone deeply invested in the wellbeing of this community, I want to personally acknowledge and celebrate the opening of Ivy’s Day Services here in Mascotte.</div>
<div dir="auto"><a href="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image000000-5.jpg"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-122480" src="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image000000-5.jpg" alt="" width="563" height="750" srcset="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image000000-5.jpg 563w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image000000-5-225x300.jpg 225w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/image000000-5-315x420.jpg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 563px) 100vw, 563px" /></a></div>
<div dir="auto">&nbsp;</div>
<div dir="auto">Founded by Kazmar Cole, Ivy’s Day Services is rooted in both experience and purpose. With over 10 years in special education, Kazmar has dedicated his career to supporting children with diverse learning and developmental needs. He has witnessed firsthand what happens when children are given the right tools, the right support, and the right environment they grow, they overcome, and they thrive.</div>
<div dir="auto">&nbsp;</div>
<div dir="auto">His impact extends beyond the classroom. As an author, he has created resources like “My Feelings @ School,” “A Man Called Pepe,” and “Pickney Fi Brite Letters and Numbers Workbook,” all designed to support children academically and emotionally. Kazmar holds a Master’s degree in Psychology and Education and is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership. His work reflects a clear and focused mission: to better understand how children learn and to create spaces where every child has the opportunity to succeed.</div>
<div dir="auto">&nbsp;</div>
<div dir="auto"><a href="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_20260326_100656.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-122482" src="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_20260326_100656-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" srcset="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_20260326_100656-225x300.jpg 225w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_20260326_100656-315x420.jpg 315w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_20260326_100656.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px" /></a>That mission is evident in Ivy’s Day Services. The center’s name is inspired by his grandmother, whose spirit of kindness, generosity, and genuine care continues to shape the heart behind this work. That legacy is felt the moment you step into the space it is welcoming, intentional, and built on the belief that every family deserves support.</div>
<div dir="auto">&nbsp;</div>
<div dir="auto">Ivy’s Day Services operates with a simple but powerful message: the door is always open. The services offered reflect a holistic approach to support, including:</div>
<div dir="auto">&nbsp;</div>
<ul>
<li dir="auto">Tutoring to strengthen academic confidence</li>
<li dir="auto">ABA therapy to support development and independence</li>
<li dir="auto">CPR and First Aid training to equip families and community members</li>
<li dir="auto">Notary services to assist with everyday needs</li>
</ul>
<p>What stands out to me is not just what is offered, but how it is offered with care, accessibility, and a genuine desire to serve. Families in Mascotte can find these resources at 376 E Myers Blvd, Suite E, or reach out directly at 407-288-4665 to learn more.</p>
<div dir="auto">As I reflect during Autism Awareness Month, I am reminded that awareness alone is not enough. Families need resources. They need support systems. They need spaces where their children are understood and valued. Ivy’s Day Services contributes to that need in a meaningful way.</div>
<div dir="auto">&nbsp;</div>
<div dir="auto">I would also like to personally recognize those who made this moment memorable and supported this milestone: Fat Chef Authentic Jamaican Cuisine Restaurant for catering; Episcopal Children’s Services in Clermont; Seventh Day Baptist Church of Central Florida; and Ann’s Designs for capturing such memorable moments.</div>
<div dir="auto">&nbsp;</div>
<div dir="auto">To Kazmar Cole: thank you for your commitment to children and families, and for planting something purposeful right here in Mascotte. And to the families in our community this is a reminder that support is growing, resources are expanding, and there are people who see you and are committed to walking alongside you.</div>
<div dir="auto">Mascotte doesn’t just grow we grow with purpose, and we grow with people in mind.</div>

<div>The City of Mascotte opened a year-long celebration in honor of the city’s 100th birthday on Saturday, January 19th. The Centennial celebration began with a parade at 10 am with Illa Mae Thomas as the Grand Marshall. Mrs. Thomas has been a lifelong resident of Mascotte, growing up and residing on North Sunset Avenue her entire life. Mrs. Thomas reflected with a smile on her attendance at the 50th, 75th, and now the 100th year celebration of a town that she has seen grow so much during her lifetime. Mrs. Thomas’ husband, Fred Thomas, served as the Mayor of Mascotte for nearly a quarter of a century with his first term beginning in 1958.<a href="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5791.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-110773" src="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5791.jpg" alt="" width="466" height="699" srcset="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5791.jpg 466w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5791-200x300.jpg 200w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5791-280x420.jpg 280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 466px) 100vw, 466px" /></a></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<p class="">The celebration continued with a “Mascotte in the Past” celebration at the Mascotte Civic Center on North Sunset Avenue. The celebration kicked off with a welcome message from Mayor Steven Sheffield. In his presentation, Mayor Sheffield shared a reflection on the rich history of the city. “One hundred years ago, Mascotte was founded with a vision of creating a place where families could grow, businesses could thrive, and neighbors could support one another. Over the decades, we’ve seen our city evolve, adapting to the changing times while holding tight to the values that have made us who we are today &#8211; community, resilience, and a deep love for our beautiful Florida surroundings,” said Sheffield.</p>
<p><a href="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-110770" src="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" srcset="https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226-300x225.jpg 300w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226-768x576.jpg 768w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226-560x420.jpg 560w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226-80x60.jpg 80w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226-696x522.jpg 696w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226-265x198.jpg 265w, https://sltablet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_5226.jpg 934w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a></p>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<p class="">Entertainment for all ages included displays with local vendors, along with trackless train rides around the complex. Bounce houses, petting zoos, interactive performers provided by <i>Orlando Youth Circus,</i> and face painting booths surrounded the pavilion that provided a historical glimpse of yesteryear Mascotte. Public safety displays included the Lake County Fire Department’s “Randy” fire engine, affectionately named in honor of longtime Mascotte Fire Chief Randy Brasher.</p>
