The plant of the month for October is the ARACEAE plant, (common name; Alocasia Regin) which was loaned to the Cooper Memorial Library by Clermont Garden Club member, Elaine Hogan, a Garden Club member (left) and was received by assistant librarian Dylan Levy (right).

Alocasia plants are native to tropical forests and jungles, where they grow on the ground floor, they only grow outdoors in USDA zones 10-12. The Alocasia is easy to grow indoors with bright, indirect sunlight preferably at an east or west-facing window in a south room. Insufficient light will cause the plant’s growth to slow and its leaves to turn yellow and die. Potting soil needs to be loose and moist with small amounts of water on a regular basis. Letting the soil partially dry out is needed for the Alocasia to prosper. Visit Cooper and see this plant of the month.

Clermont Garden Club shares a plant with the library each month to promote cultural awareness, civic beautification, and community outreach. For more information about becoming a member, or for clubhouse rental opportunities, visit www.ClermontGardenClub.com
