The 10th annual Clermont Ride of Silence took place on May 19, 2021.

This year hundreds of cyclists of all ages gathered at Waterfront Park and rode in a silent 8 mile, slow-paced ride around Lake Minneola. The reason for the ride is to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road, and provide awareness of bicycling safety.

This is a WORLDWIDE event where cyclists ride in a silent and slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph) to honor those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.

In Clermont, the ride started in 2012 in memory of Harry Nickel and Brent McLarty, cyclists killed while bicycling….loving fathers who never came home from their last rides.

Since 2003, cyclists from 47 states, 15 countries, 7 continents participate in the ride of silence in honor of cyclists hit or killed by distracted drivers.

The Ride of Silence Poem

Tonight we number many but ride as one
In honor of those not with us, friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, sons
With helmets on tight and heads down low,
We ride in silence, cautious and slow
The wheels start spinning in the lead pack
But tonight we ride and no one attacks
The dark sunglasses cover our tears
Remembering those we held so dear
Tonight’s ride is to make others aware
The road is there for all to share
To those not with us or by our side,
May God be your partner on your final ride
