A sizable sinkhole, approximately 60 feet in diameter, has opened near the intersection of Highway 50 and US Highway 27 in Clermont, creating a scene of concern and curiosity. The sinkhole, located near Dunkin’ Donuts, has been barricaded and surrounded by piles of sand as a safety precaution.

Work has begun to address the issue, with crews assessing the damage and planning stabilization measures. Businesses in the area remain open.  

Sinkholes are not uncommon in Florida, where the geology includes limestone bedrock that can dissolve over time, leading to collapses like this one. This incident serves as a reminder of the unique challenges faced by communities in the Sunshine State.

For now, the focus remains on safely resolving the situation and ensuring no further risks to nearby businesses or residents.
