]]> Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District proudly celebrates Florida Water Conservation Month by sponsoring The Lake Regional Envirothon. On April 12, 2022, over 200 middle and high school students ascended on Hickory Point Recreation Park. The competition included land, water, current events, forestry and soils questions. 
 
From the District Chairperson Office, Banks Helfrich notes “This year’s participation was the highest we have seen in decades.” 
 
With a three-year budget of $1.2 million, the District is an educational and non-regulatory entity that evaluates the best water conservation practices for Agra-businesses in 23 Florida counties. Funded by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Services, the District employs four hydro-technicians and an administrative assistant.   
 
This year, the District also sponsored an Arbor Day Tree Giveaway with the City of Tavares, Lemongrass Giveaway with A Natural Farm, $1000 college scholarship, poster contest and the Sorrento Elementary Spring Garden and Irrigation Project.
