The Lake County Board of County Commissioners will celebrate America’s 250th birthday with the unveiling of a new America250 monument outside the Lake County Historical Museum in downtown Tavares. The county will host a public ceremony at 8:30 am on Thursday, July 2.

The monument, being installed in front of the museum near the historic courthouse, is part of Lake County’s ongoing America250 celebration honoring the nation’s semiquincentennial. The unveiling ceremony will include remarks from County representatives.

“The story of America is also the story of local communities like ours,” said Lake County Chairwoman Leslie Campione. “This monument is a reminder of the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices made by generations before us, and the responsibility we all share to preserve those ideals for future generations. We are proud to celebrate America250 here in Lake County.”

The monument highlights key moments in national, state, and local history, including Lake County’s formation in 1887 and the region’s role in Florida’s agricultural, transportation, and tourism industries.

“This monument creates a lasting opportunity for residents and visitors to reflect on our nation’s history and Lake County’s place within it,” Campione said.

The America250 monument joins several other Lake County initiatives recognizing the nation’s 250th anniversary, including historical photo campaigns, community partnerships, educational outreach, and patriotic displays throughout the county.

The Lake County Historical Museum is located at 317 W. Main St. in downtown Tavares.
