In an abundance of caution, five Lake County branch libraries will close at 5 p.m. daily until further notice, beginning Monday, September 26, as part of the County’s storm preparation.

The five branch libraries include:

• Astor County Library in Astor
• Cagan Crossings Community Library in Four Corners
• East Lake Mini Library in Sorrento
• Marion Baysinger Memorial County Library in Groveland
• Paisley County Library in Paisley

Cooper Memorial Library in Clermont will remain open with limited services.

“As we approach Independence Day and reflect on the freedoms and liberties bestowed upon all Americans in the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence, I am excited that the Lake County Library System will be sharing copies with residents visiting our libraries,” said Lake County Board Chairman Sean Parks. “I hope all residents enjoy the 4^th of July in Lake County and take pride in this great nation!”

Pocket-sized editions of the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence will be distributed at each of the 16 Lake County libraries during regular hours while supplies last. Booklets will be limited to one booklet per person.

“Libraries are the information hubs of the community,” said George Taylor, director of the Lake County Library System. “We’re excited to use this opportunity to share information about the freedoms afforded to us by the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence.”

Food for Fines, held May 19 – June 1 of this year, has become an annual tradition. During this time, unexpired dry and canned food, as well as hygiene products, are traded in at the 15 Lake County Library System libraries to pay for overdue fines.

“The drive is a great benefit to our patrons, libraries, and community,” said George Taylor, Director of the Lake County Library System. “We’ve received an outpouring of support to help get essential items to those in need. Clearing library fines also gives everyone a chance to join our summer reading competitions and earn prizes. This is especially true for kids. This year, hundreds of children’s fines were waived, giving them a chance to explore everything the library has to offer.”

Donated items were sent to the following nonprofit organizations: Faith Neighborhood Center in Groveland, First Baptist Church of Astor, First Baptist Church of Sorrento, Heritage Community Church in Fruitland Park, Howey in-the-Hills Community Church, Lady Lake Food Pantry, Lake Cares Food Pantry, Leesburg Food Bank, New Beginnings of Central Florida in Clermont, South Lake Community Ministries’ “Buses ‘N Backpacks” program, and Union Congregational Church in Tavares. Donations were also delivered to veterans in Umatilla.
