The Lake County Tax Collector’s office recently acquired Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and requested assistance from the Lake County Office of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to teach classes on proper usage to all employees. District Chief Carey provided instructions on how to properly use an AED.

Carey also trains Lake County Board of County Commissioners staff as part of the Friends and Family CPR class, the American Heart Association‘s hands-only course for those who are in a non-healthcare related field. His training allows Lake County employees to learn important CPR and AED skills, in case of an emergency.

“When it comes to cardiac events, time plays a key role in ensuring the best positive outcome for the patient,” said Jerry Smith, Lake County Office of Emergency Medical Services Director. “I highly encourage all citizens to receive training in how to properly perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) so that when an emergency happens, they are prepared and can give that person a fighting chance prior to the arrival of EMS.”

During the recognition, Lake County Tax Collector David Jordan thanked the Office of EMS and recognized District Chief Carey for providing training that will allow his employees to properly utilize AEDs and increase a positive outcome, should a cardiac arrest event ever happen. Mr. Jordan also said the training will allow his employees to feel more comfortable assisting in an emergency situation and will significantly benefit patient care prior to medical professionals arriving.
