At Lake Apopka Natural Gas District (LANGD), we pride ourselves on the service we provide and the recognition we receive for a job well done. When we look back on 2023, we can do so with satisfaction, knowing that it was another successful year of delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective natural gas to our amazing Apopka, Winter Garden, Clermont and surrounding communities!

Whether it was volunteering time donating non-perishables to local fundraisers, getting our neighbors ready for hurricane season by providing storm preparedness kits or continuing to support our Helping Hand customer assistance fund, LANGD proved time and again that we are here to support our community members through thick and thin.

Our efforts to strengthen the community by providing resilient and affordable natural gas continue to win awards and industry recognition from the American Public Gas Association (APGA) and the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC). Recognized for the twelfth straight year in 2023, the APGA granted its annual Safety Award to the District for our dedication to natural gas safety standards, and we were also found fully compliant with state and federal natural gas pipeline safety rules by the FPSC for the seventh year in a row.

LANGD is also proud to have been selected for a 3.1 million dollar grant to continue improving our existing natural gas infrastructure. This incredible opportunity was presented to the LANGD team through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s “Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization Grant Program” exclusively for community-owned, not-for-profit natural gas distribution utilities. Chosen as one of 37 recipients throughout 19 states, we’re improving public safety, protecting public health and reducing emissions from natural gas distribution equipment. We have our work cut out for us in 2024, and we couldn’t be more excited to implement these funds as we work toward providing reliable natural gas to our over 28,000 customers.

Helping our customers through the holiday season with reliability, comfort, and substantial savings, we keep our neighbors informed of ongoing incentives and benefits of making the switch to natural gas. For example, did you know that the U.S. Department of Energy found that “natural gas is 3.3 times more affordable than electricity and significantly more affordable than several other residential energy sources for the same amount of energy delivered?” So, if you’re considering switching from other, less-efficient energy sources, natural gas can be the perfect gift to yourself and your loved ones, putting money back in your pockets, which we all know is especially welcome during this time of year.

All-in-all, 2023 was one for the books; from being celebrated with industry recognition to staying involved in community events and providing exceptional service along the way, we are grateful for the growth we’ve shared over the past year and for our team’s dedication to a job well done, and we look forward to what 2024 has in store.

Thank you to everyone who made this a year one to remember. At LANGD, our resolution stays the same- to provide our communities with safe, affordable access to natural gas. Learn about switching to resilient and reliable natural gas with the District’s marketing team at (407) 656-2737, ext. 307, marketing@langd.org

As an organization that has provided safe, reliable natural gas service for more than 60 years, we are committed to giving you the facts about natural gas safety. And here’s fact No. 1: natural gas stoves are not only safe, but also less expensive to use and provide unmatched cooking quality.

But don’t just take it from us. In response to reports about natural gas stoves, the American Gas Association clarified that many of the studies making supposed health claims relied on questionable assumptions about airflow and ventilation that are inconsistent with typical homes in the U.S.

The discussion around indoor air quality fails to account for proper ventilation against emissions. Just like you wouldn’t drive your car without a proper exhaust system, LANGD adheres to existing regulations and recommends that our customers have proper ventilation in place, not just for their natural gas appliances, but for all cookware that generates high heat and releases fumes into the air.

Much of the discussion also appears to revolve around an all-electric, single-source energy movement, known as “electrification,” which is not only unrealistic, but is often based on a lack of facts about natural gas.

That’s why in June 2021, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 919 into law – preventing local governments from banning fuel sources and signaling to consumers that they should always have a choice when it comes to their preferred energy source.

We believe individuals are encouraged to do their own research when it comes to deciding which energy is best to fuel their appliances. Everyone deserves the opportunity to decide for themselves, and homeowners, chefs and restaurant owners shouldn’t have to rethink their plans or spend thousands remodeling based on speculative claims.

After all, one of the most sought-after benefits of natural gas is that cooking over the flame allows you to quickly and precisely adjust the temperature to help cook your meal to perfection. This unmatched temperature control can take you from a boil to a simmer, or vice versa, in a matter of minutes, and is part of the reason why 90% of professional chefs prefer cooking with natural gas (Blue Flame Alliance).

To continue learning more about why natural gas stoves are a safe and reliable option for your kitchen, visit www.aga.org/research-policy.

If you’re considering making the switch to using natural gas, please contact the LANGD marketing team at (407) 656-2734 x307 or marketing@langd.org, or visit www.langd.org for more information on natural gas service for your home, business or vehicle.
