]]> Native Americans and Indigenous people have significantly influenced the history and culture of the United States. 

The contributions of Native Americans have enhanced the freedom, prosperity, and greatness of America today; and the customs and traditions of Indigenous people should be respected and celebrated as part of their rich legacy throughout the United States.

Native American Awareness Week began in 1976 and recognition was expanded by Congress and approved by President George Bush in August 1990, designating November as National American Indian Heritage Month.

At the recent Clermont Council meeting, Mayor Tim Murry proclaimed November as National Native American Heritage Month.
