The Clermont Police Department hosted the annual National Night Out (NNO) at Waterfront Park, 300 Third Street, Clermont on Tuesday, October 1^st. The 10^th annual event was complete with law enforcement, fire department and public safety displays from agencies throughout the Lake County and West Orange County area.

Members of the Clermont Battalion Sea Cadet Corps opened the festivities with a presentation of the state and national flags while the Rhythm of the Knights Cappella Group from East Ridge High School performed by singing the National Anthem. The Lake Minneola High School Marching Band highlighted the opening with a march and cadence around the Highlander pavilion. The Aurelia Cole Academy Dance Squad performed as the squad enjoyed its 2^nd annual appearance before the NNO crowd included an introduction from the Clermont City Council members.

The annual event is free of charge to guests. It provides an opportunity for area residents to meet their first responders, local business vendors, and not-for-profit organizations on a one-on-one basis and family-friendly atmosphere.

The NNO is an annual community-building campaign, that began in 1984, to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring, places to live. Millions of neighbors participate in NNO across thousands of communities from all fifty states and U.S. territories while providing a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

 The Clermont Police Department works hard at fostering an environment of positive community relations all year with programs such as Coffee with a Cop, Crime Prevention Tips, Business Safety programs, a Citizens Academy Awareness class, numerous holiday season events, and partnered charity causes, plus much more.

A favorite, free family event that brings police officers and community members together for a fun evening returns to Clermont on Tuesday, Oct.1 at Waterfront Park from 5 to 8 p.m.

National Night Out was introduced nearly 40 years ago and remains a great way for residents and neighbors to meet and chat with local law enforcement officers at a fun event and not wait for their paths to cross during a crisis. Clermont Police Department and Clermont Fire Department will feature their officers and firefighters and host other local agencies to showcase equipment, vehicles, special tools and live demonstrations.

Other agencies joining in the fun include: • Lake County Sheriff’s Office • Town of Oakland Police Department • Mascotte Police Department • Groveland Police Department • Florida Fish and Wildlife • Florida Department of Corrections • Fraternal Order of Police

Lots of music,  food vendors with free samples, an inflatable obstacle course that will challenge kids to climb and balance, along with educational and helpful information from local organizations will ensure something for everyone.

“National Night Out remains a great opportunity for police officers to meet and visit with our neighbors in a fun setting – and not wait for a crisis. The best way to strengthen the safety of your community is to know your neighbors”, said Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway.

Clermont Police had their JR. SWAT Challenge Course, ready for children to run a junior-sized obstacle course complete with monkey bars, balance beams, and a low-crawl course. Kids also participated in a tug-of-war with police officers!
