Dr. Cummings noted that the award was named after her granddaddy Oakley Seaver. The award has been presented annually since 2005 to recognize excellence in non-profits, healthcare, and education. 

The year’s 2024 Oakley Seaver Special Service Award was presented to Sandra and Otis Taylor of the Give a Day Foundation.

Otis and Sandra demonstrate exceptional volunteerism within the community, contributing significantly to the success of year-round events organized by the South Lake Chamber of Commerce. Devoting their time to the chamber, they play a crucial role in setting up and dismantling monthly and yearly events.

As the Founders of Give A Day Foundation, they act as a vital link between local non-profits, businesses needing volunteers, and individuals seeking volunteer opportunities 

Otis and Sandra have organized the Champion Circle mentorship program, providing a haven for young men needing guidance and leadership. Through workshops that impart valuable skills and life lessons, they create a nurturing environment for their growth. Additionally, they spearhead the Think Tank, a collaborative space where local non-profit organizations exchange ideas and explore ways to serve South Lake. 

They have received other honors in the community, including: 

• Chamber Ambassador of the Year 

• South Lake’s Outstanding Volunteer of the Year by the Community Foundation of South Lake 

• Volunteer Community Service Award from the Lake County Service Awards 

• Ann Dupee Gem of the Hills Award

Otis and Sandra are indeed South Lake Gems.
