Groveland Mayor Evelyn Wilson, city officials and community leaders will gather in the field east of the Tractor Supply on State Road 50, on Wednesday, July 3, at 4:00 pm to celebrate the official ground-breaking of the long-awaited Public Safety Complex .

Groveland’s Public Safety Complex will house all public safety employees (headquarters for Groveland Police and Fire departments) with an Emergency Operation Center (EOC). The EOC will be the communication center where strategic direction and operational decisions will be made in times of emergency, allowing personnel to quickly disburse information to the county and surrounding areas. The 33,000 +/- square-foot multi-level building will also include an ambulance bay, training classrooms, and Groveland’s community development department.

Groveland City Manager Michael Hein said he believes that this groundbreaking is one of the biggest in Groveland’s history.

Currently, both police and fire department buildings date back to the 1960s when one served as a bunker and the other as the city barn. Deputy Chief Armando Loney and Fire Chief Willie Morgan agree that this new building will bring a sense of pride, not only to the departments but to the city as well.

GatorSKtch Architects & Planners have provided the layout design. Contractual bidding has recently closed and the selected contractual bid will be announced during the regularly scheduled council meeting on Monday, July 1, at the Puryear building.
