Local education foundations from throughout the state nominated their superintendents and school board members for the 14th annual awards. Nominees were reviewed by other education foundation directors in the state and rated for their leadership and involvement with their local education foundation.

In nominating Ms. Kornegay, community leaders cited her strong partnership with the Education Foundation of Lake County and leadership with district-wide student impact initiatives.

“Ms. Kornegay respects our 30-year history of supporting and recognizing students and teachers and she has actively engaged us in district-wide initiatives to have even greater impact, seeing us as a valued partner in the district’s efforts to increase graduation rates and Career/Technical Education certifications,” said Carman Cullen, executive director of the foundation. “She is actively engaged in our events and fundraising efforts and provides invaluable insights at our monthly foundation board meetings.”

“We think it’s important to celebrate the school district leaders who make it a priority to foster private-sector support of public education through their local education foundations,” said Mary Chance, CFEF president.  “This year’s recipients are outstanding examples of the many individuals who advocate for our local education foundations and help us raise more than $65 million annually to support our students, teachers and schools.”

The CFEF is the membership organization for Florida’s school district-wide local education foundations. Established in 1987, the CFEF seeks to advance student achievement in Florida by increasing business and community investment and involvement in public education.
