Hello Clermont Champions! 

All over our community and beyond, the damage done by Hurricane Milton remains apparent. When I see what is left of majestic trees mangled by the wind and reduced to debris, I can’t help but feel thankful we escaped serious injury. The City’s shade trees and docks took a beating, but we can repair and replant. 

We provided residents with more than 27,000 sandbags; fire and police knocked on doors in neighborhoods threatened by high water; we activated our Emergency Operations Center and continually provided updated storm alerts. 

Just two weeks after Hurricane Milton struck, more than 14,000 cubic yards of storm debris has been collected. As a reminder, it takes 8-9 wheelbarrow loads to make one cubic yard! Our cleanup began a handful of hours after the storm and staff continues to work 12-hour days, seven days a week. 

As a City, we are prepared for tropical weather and I want to extend a very special thanks to our staff who worked tirelessly to prepare and now as we recover from the impacts of this most unwelcome visitor. 

We celebrated three of our local Olympians when Noah Lyles, Kenny Bednarek & Gabby Scott set up shop at City Hall and greeted more than 500 people during Mainstreet’s Harvest Festival. These amazing athletes were beyond approachable and gracious as they shook hands, autographed running shoes and race shirts, smiled for countless photos, and answered all kinds of questions. Thank you, Noah, Kenny, and Gabby, for allowing us to show just how proud we are of you all! 

We are down to the final days before the 2024 Election, which will determine many local, state, and national races. If you didn’t take advantage of early voting, make sure you get to the polls between 7 am and 7 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Visit www.lakevotes.com for election details. 

Consider yourself invited to attend “Lunch with the Mayor” at noon on the first Tuesday of each month. You buy your lunch, and I share updates on City services, events, and activities and answer your questions. Our next lunch will be held on Nov. 5 at the Robata Japanese Steak House, 1500 Oakley Seaver Drive. 

Mark your calendars now for our Veterans Day celebration on Monday, Nov. 11. A parade will begin at 9 am at West Park, and travel to Waterfront Park for a special program at 11 am. I hope you can join us as we honor the men and women in uniform who help ensure our freedom and security.
