Saturday’s 5k parkrun saw 106 participants emerge from the early morning fog to cross the finish line on the South Lake trail near Lake Hiawatha Preserve. Perennial local favorite Luiz Prestes was running his 50th parkrun and completed the 5k in first place with a time of 17:50.  Two first-time parkrunners made impressive debuts, Vincent Merriam came in a close second at 17:56, and Stephane Boudreau took third with a time of 18:31.

The women were led by Madeleine Vergauwen who crossed the line at 21:28.  In second was Tricia Gough, visiting from Dublin, Ireland and completing the course in 22:30.  The third-place female runner was local regular Anne McFarlane with a time of 23:22.  It should also be noted that Dawn Shovestull also completed a milestone run this week to join Luis Prestes in the 50 parkrun club.

This weekend’s free parkrun was provided made possible by ten volunteers: Jennifer and Jerry Lykins, Harry Barnes, and Kay Melvin-Barnes, Mary Surprenant, Travis Hoffman, Josh Castleman, Carolyn Harmon, Hector Clemente and Jim Pickering.  If you are a regular parkrunner, please make sure you sign up to help out in one of our future events.
