Lake-Sumter State College’s student clubs College Democrats and College Republicans are hosting local political candidates that are running for state legislature seats in this year’s elections. Each candidate will have three to four minutes to give a speech. After the speaking portion, candidates will participate in a meet and greet with students, staff, and community members.

Every candidate in LSSC’s service area (State House District’s 31, 32, and 33 as well as State Senate District’s 12 and 22) have been invited to the event.

What:   Event open to the public to meet local legislature candidates running in upcoming 2018 elections.

When:  April 11, 2018: 1 pm – 3 pm

Where: 9501 US Highway 441, Leesburg Campus, Magnolia Room

Who:   The following candidates have confirmed their attendance of the event:

  • State House District 31: Jennifer Sullivan
  • State House District 32: Sheryl Cohn, Shannon Elswick, Anthony Sabatini, Monica Wofford
  • State House District 33: Oren Miller
  • State Senate District 12: Dennis Baxley, Gary McKechnie

Why:  Students in both clubs seek to bring together the college community with our current and potential state leaders in the spirit of encouraging political discourse and involvement.
