In the early hours of January 19, 2015, a fire consumed American Legion Post 55, located at 1063 DeSoto Street, Clermont.  Luckily no one was injured, but the building was destroyed.

American Legion Post 55-Clermont has a new home and recently held the grand opening of its Canteen at 756 West Ave. Clermont. Family, friends as well as members of the South Lake Chamber of Commerce, Clermont Mayor Gail Ash, Police Chief Charles Broadway, Pam Jones of Congressman Daniel Webster’s office were just a few who gathered to celebrate at an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and Bar-B-Q.

The building will temporarily house the veterans’ organization. If all goes according to plan, a permanent building should be completed by the end of the year.
