Keep Lake Beautiful, in partnership with the city of Clermont and Lake County’s Adopt-a-Lake Program, hosted an Earth Day community cleanup event on Saturday, April 21.

Volunteers came by land and lake to pick up litter in lakes, shorelines and surrounding areas of Lake Hiawatha, Lake Minneola, Lake Palatlakaha and Lake Minnehaha.  Trash bags, trash grabbers, gloves, water, and T-shirts were given to the participants.  There were a number of groups involved in the cleanup including members of the Clermont Chain of Lakes Foundation, a Clermont not for profit group whose primary mission is to protect the Lake Hiawatha Preserve.

From 7:30 am – 10:30 am, individuals and teams picked up unsightly rubbish. At 10:30 am, the work ended and the Earth Day Celebration began at the Hiawatha Preserve. The family fun included Environmental Education, Earth Kids Zone, DJ Music, Entertainment, Non-profit food vendors, giveaways and more!

It was a great community effort.
