Lake County Solid Waste is encouraging Lake County residents to dispose of household hazardous materials in a safe and environmentally conscious way at a collection and community cleanup event in Groveland. The county’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit will be collecting the items from 9 am – noon on Saturday, June 9 at the Ace Hardware, located at 1007 W. State Road 50, Groveland.

Representatives will be on-hand to collect small quantities of waste products such as lawn and gardening materials, cleaning and swimming pool chemicals, paint, used motor oil and related products.

This collection event is being held in conjunction with a Keep Lake Beautiful (KLB) community cleanup event sponsored by Waste Pro, who will be providing dumpsters at the event. Residents are encouraged to clean their homes and yards of excess trash, passenger car tires, and any items that could hold water and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes that spread disease.

KLB will provide gloves, safety vests, trash bags and water to those helping to clean the community. Volunteers must be 16 years or older, or be accompanied by an adult. Participants are encouraged to wear proper attire, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Since its launch, KLB has hosted or partnered on more than two dozen projects including community and waterway cleanups, roadside litter pickups, neighborhood and school beautification events, tree plantings and household hazardous waste collection events.

KLB is seeking motivated community-minded volunteers to mobilize within their neighborhoods to spread KLB’s mission of beautifying Lake County by engaging the community. To register as a volunteer or to become a sponsor of future events, visit www.lakecountyfl.gov/KLB, call 352-253-1660, or sign up at the event.
