Clermont Police Officer Elijah Wells Receives Life Saving Award

Officer Elijah Wells was directing traffic at Lost Lake Elementary on March 30 when he was told that a 9-year-old child was choking.  The officer entered the school bus to find that the child’s face was turning blue.

Officer Wells rushed into action and performed the Heimlich Maneuver and successfully dislodged the grape which opened the child’s airway.

Clermont Police Chief Broadway recognized Officer Wells before City Council for his quick and heroic actions that possibly saved the life of the 9-year-old student.

Officer Dubi responded to a call that a shoplifting was in progress at Target. Target employees unsuccessfully attempted to apprehend the suspect and he fled outside of the store.

Upon arrival of Officer Dubi, the subject continued to flee and actually ran out of his shoes. Officer Dubi was able to tackle the subject to the ground but the subject continued to aggressively and physically resist the efforts of Officer Dubi to handcuff him.

A good Samaritan did not hesitate to come to the aid of Officer Dubi.  The good Samaritan, Carlos Baez physically assisted in pinning the subject as Officer Dubi was able to gain control and handcuff the subject. The subject was arrested and charged with retail theft, resisting arrest and the illegal possession of methadone.

Police Chief Broadway said that the Clermont Police department was grateful to Carlos Baez who selflessly acted with bravery to render aid to Officer Dubi.
