Cooper Memorial Library

The Lake County Library System and Lake Sumter State College recently went before Clermont City Council to request a contribution of $76,000 to extend the hours that Cooper Memorial Library would remain open on Fridays and Saturdays during this coming fiscal year.  Lake County Commissioner Wendy Breeden advised city council that the County was on a maintenance budget and could not afford the extra money to keep Cooper Memorial Library open for the extra hours. A Lake Sumter State College representative advised that the same budget problems applied to them.

Clermont City Council agreed to hold an open hearing concerning the request at their budget hearing on Thursday, September 6, at 6:30 pm in Council Chambers at Clermont City Hall, 685 W. Montrose Street, Clermont.

Anyone finding it difficult getting to the library or using the library during the present operating hours, should attend Thursday’s open hearing and let the council know the need for additional hours to benefit students, parents, and the community.
