Clermont Police Department will be hosting Lake County’s first Walk Like MADD 5K event for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D) on Sept. 15,  at 8am, at Clermont’s Waterfront Park located at 100 3rd St., Clermont.

M.A.D.D is an incorporation that is dedicated to aiding the victims of crimes performed by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Their mission includes aiding the families of such victims and helps increase public awareness of the problem of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Walk Like MADD is the organization’s signature fundraising event to help raise both awareness and funds to eliminate drunk driving. Last year, tens of thousands of people in over 90 cities across the nation participated and together raised over 3 million dollars to provide programs and services at no cost. With every step taken and each dollar raised, walkers are supporting MADD’s lifesaving mission to keep families and communities safe.

“We are excited to bring MADD to Lake County,” said Officer Deborah Reasoner from the Clermont Police Department Traffic Unit. “I know we have victims and families that could benefit from their aid and services,” said Reasoner.

“The Clermont Police Department encourages everyone to come out and show their support for such a worthy cause. We are very enthusiastic about our new partnership with MADD, and fully support their efforts in reducing impaired driving-related fatalities,” stated Chief Charles Broadway.

You can register to participate in the walk at www.walklikemadd.org. Check-in for walkers at the event will be at 7am. The opening ceremony and remarks start at 8am. The walk will begin at 8:30am. Vendor spots are still available.  For information on how you can help, please contact Officer Deborah Reasoner at dreasoner@clermontfl.org
