This weekend’s parkrun may have just seemed like an ordinary Saturday. But in fact, it marked a very special occasion. This Saturday’s race was the Clermont Waterfront parkun’s 250th event. Clermont Waterfront parkrun started on 27th April 2013. It’s the second parkrun founded in the United States.

Nearly every weekend since then, the race directors and volunteers have helped put on a non-profit 5k that is open to everyone. It started out with only a few people and now has reached over 200.

Parkrun has provided an amazing and accessible opportunity for people in the community to meet new friends, connect and socialize, get in some training, or just stay active. Now, it has hit its 250th event, which is certainly causing for celebration. Every parkrunner was welcome to meet after the race at Cheeser’s Palace as usual, but this time there was a cake to celebrate.

This weekend 107 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 18 were first timers and 13 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 13 different clubs took part.

It was only fitting that one of the original parkrunners topped the podium this weekend. Kevin Grogan, who has been running parkrun since its 2nd event way back in April of 2013, finished first for the first time in few months in a very impressive time of 17:53. The second was Daniel Caldwell in 18:50, followed by overseas visitor Thomas David Longdon in 19:39.

First timer Maureen Powers took the win on the female side in a time of 23:23. Junior runner Sierra Lubetkin finish second in a new PB of 23:55. Rounding out the podium was Gillian Lee in 24:27.

Two parkrunners hit individual milestones this week as well. Carolyn Harmon and Dottie Harding both ran their 100th parkrun, congrats ladies!

The event was made possible by 13 volunteers: Rissie THIELER • Kimberly GROGAN • Kendyl CARDWELL • Toni RICHARDSON • Josh CASTLEMAN • Yolimar BOLIVAR • Karma STEWART • Butch HOLT • Carolyn HARMON • David HARMON • Sharon JOHNSON • Joyce TUCKER • Dieter GRUBE
