Earlier this year, Clermont was chosen as one of five cities to host a Fondo Cycling Circuit USA (FCCUSA) event in which both recreational and competitive cyclists can compete in one of three distances: 30 miles, 50 miles or 75 miles.

The event, while more recreational in nature, has several timed sections along each route offering a competitive element for cyclists looking for a challenge. In the end, it’s all about personal achievement.

The two-day event will be held at Clermont Victory Pointe on Lake Minneola and include a retail expo, athlete check-in and late registration on Saturday followed by the rides on Sunday. The event concludes with food, craft beer and live music.

The Gran Fondo, part of the newly-created Fondo Cycling Circuit USA, is put on by Asdeporte, which stages major running and cycling endurance events. Gran Fondo, which roughly translates into “Big Ride,” is a long-distance bicycle ride that began in 1970 in Italy.

Other cities that will host the event are Davidson, NC, Harrisburg, Pa.; Akron, Ohio; and Fredericksburg, Va.
