The 28th Annual Sommer Sports Great Floridian Triathlon will take place on Saturday, October 20th. Over 1,000 athletes and spectators are anticipated to visit downtown Clermont during the weekend.

The event begins at Victory Pointe Park and finishes on Minneola Ave in front of Suncreek Brewery Michael’s Ali Coal Fired Pizza and Savoree.  Minneola Avenue from 7th Street to 8th Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 5 am on Saturday until 2 am on Sunday. The parking lot on Minneola Avenue will be open and accessible from 7th Street and Montrose Street.

The Great Floridian Triathlon offers athletes a number of distance options. Some athletes will be racing for a few hours, while others will be competing for up to 14 hours and may finish around midnight.  There will be athletes and spectators in the downtown area from sunrise to well into the early parts of Sunday morning around 1 am. Road closures will take place on Osceola and Minneola.

“We anticipate a few thousand athletes and spectators in downtown for the Great Floridian Triathlon race and festivities. Fred Sommer, the Race Director and CEO has shared parking maps and information with athletes and we are coordinating closely for a smooth event”, said Economic Director Shannon Schmidt.
