The Montverde Academy Theatre Department is proud to announce that the first theatrical performance of the season titled, “She Loves Me,” based on Joe Masteroff’s book, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and music by Jerry Bock, was nominated for 20 Applause Awards. The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Applause Award celebrates high school students and teachers involved in musical theater.

The show ran in late September and was a 1930s era romantic comedy that featured shop clerks Amalia, played by Maya Mills, and Georg, played by Anthony Morehead. As co-workers in a Hungarian perfumery, the two as coworkers were by no means friends – he thinks she’s stuck up, and she thinks he’s arrogant and mean. The story could have ended there, but as each has a lonely hearts pen pal, it becomes obvious that they’re in love without realizing it.

The nominations for students include Lead Performers: Emma Crider, Aidan Fracker, Maya Mills and Anthony Morehead; Supporting Performers:  Daniel Mills and Aiden Bjortvedt; Acting Performer:  Aidan Fracker; and Vocal Performer:  Aidan Fracker. Additional nominations include Outstanding Musical, Ensemble, Orchestra, Technical Achievement, Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, Set Designer, Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, and Costume Designer.

“We are thrilled to have our work recognized with 20 nominations,” said Dean Bell, Montverde Academy Director of Arts. “Every production is an undertaking that involves many students, faculty, staff, and volunteers who invest time and energy into making the performances successful. We’re grateful for the honor and recognition of our team’s dedication to presenting outstanding theatre to our community.”
