CLERMONT – During this week’s City Council Meeting, Joe Van Zile, Finance Director and his team proudly showed off the prestigious Certificate of Achievement Award for Financial Reporting recently awarded to the city’s Finance department.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” the GFOA said in a prepared statement.

An impartial panel of judges determined that the city met the program’s high standards, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read their report.

This is no small task and takes the coordinated efforts of several staff members to make it happen. It’s yet another way that Clermont embodies its brand, the Choice of Champions.

After the council meeting, Councilman Ray Goodgame boasted,”Wow, we have one great Financial Department!”
