Lake Minneola High School Senior Nicole Velez Munoz was chosen as an Outstanding Student Leader recipient. The award was announced at January’s South Lake Chamber Breakfast by the United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties Campaign Director Anessa Hunt.

Nicole holds a 4.64 GPA, is an AP Scholar Award recipient, AVID’s Best TRF and recognized as a Most Likely to be CEO. She has been awarded the Principals Academic Award of Summa Cum Laude and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Nicole balances her academic responsibilities with her community efforts.  She is a member of the Future Health Professionals, the Key Club, the Interact Club. She volunteers in the guidance corner at Lake Minneola High School, at South Lake Hospital and with the Pig on the Pond scholarship project.

The Community Foundation of South Lake in partnership with the South Lake Chamber of Commerce formed the Foundations for Education Programs which provides $1,000 scholarships to five deserving high school students during the school year. Nicole was selected as one of these deserving students.

Kathy Smith, the Foundation’s director of Donor Relations, thanked United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties for its support and sponsorship in this project.
