After months of waiting, Five Guys opens its doors to customers this Thursday, March 21. The restaurant, known for its hand-crafted burgers and fries, is located at College Station (Hancock Road and SR50).

The SOUTH LAKE TABLET had the opportunity to speak with owner Scott Strahm about the anticipated opening.

Owner Scott Strahm, Five Guys Burgers and Fries

TABLET: Everyone has been waiting for the opening of Five Guys. Can you briefly describe the journey leading up to next Thursday’s opening?

Scott: Construction began in mid-December, hoping to be opened by the end of February.  There were delays that pushed the date back to this Thursday, March 21st, but we couldn’t be more excited to open and serve the Clermont community.  We are ready to serve the delicious Five Guys burgers and fries in a vibrant, upbeat environment!

TABLET: Why did you choose Clermont to open your business?

Scott: Clermont represents our first Five Guys that we’ve built from the ground up.  We’ve been fortunate to purchase the 13 other locations, but this is our first new store opening.  The City of Clermont is a growing city that still boasts a small town feel.  Add all the events and tournaments Clermont hosts, and we thought it would be a perfect spot for a Five Guys!

TABLET: Can you tell us a little about you and your family?

Scott: I’m a Tampa resident by way of Indianapolis, IN.  My wife moved down to Florida with me to begin our journey in restaurant franchising and she has been my biggest supporter.  We’ve been blessed with 2 children (daughter Layla, almost 4 and son Caleb, almost 1).  I’ve been in restaurant franchising for 10 years with my business partner George Estep and his wife Stella, beginning in Subways and transitioning to Five Guys over the past 2 years.

TABLET: The SOUTH LAKE TABLET, as well as the community, wish you success in your newest venture.
