The Clermont Police Department will host its first public safety youth academy in June 2019.

This event will take place June 10 through 14, from 8 am to 4 pm at Clermont Police Department Headquarters located at 3600 S. Hwy. 27.  It is open to youth who are residents of Clermont and who are in school grades 8 to 11.  Applicants must also possess a minimum grade point average of 2.5, provide a positive recommendation from a member of their school’s teaching staff, as well as possess an interest in law enforcement and a commitment to completing the academy.

In this academy, the participants will gain an understanding of law enforcement and experience what it is like being a law enforcement officer in the City of Clermont.  The participants will learn aspects of law enforcement and take part in exercises involving the following topics – crime scene investigations, evidence collection, defensive tactics, special response teams, the judicial process and much, much more!

To apply, interested and qualified youth must complete a small application, along with a letter of recommendation, and submit all signed paperwork to the Clermont Police Department before April 29, 2019.  If interested, please contact Sergeant Malcolm Draper at (352) 536-8412, or mdraper@clermontfl.orgApplicants must hurry as space is limited for this exciting weeklong event!
