Lake County’s 8th Annual Landscape & Garden Fair, a botanical-themed festival that’s free to the public, will be held Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14 at the Lake County Extension Center’s Discovery Gardens, located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.
Sponsored by Lake County, The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension and the Lake County Master Gardeners, the festival attracts thousands of guests to hear expert speakers present on various topics, including butterflies, hydroponics and succulents.
Some notable programs this year include “Simple Landscape Design Tips,” taught by Residential Horticulture Extension Agent, Brooke Moffis. “Unusual, Easy-to-Grow Vegetables,” led by Lake County Master Gardeners Jack Pounders and Tyrone Hill, and “Favorite Master Gardener Plants,” hosted by St. John’s County Master Gardener Shirley Barber.
Additional family-friendly activities include the Children’s Passport, with stops at multiple gardens, the Maze Scavenger Hunt and a special butterfly release. Visitors also have an opportunity to browse landscaping materials, native plants, fruit trees and other goods available for purchase by local vendors.
Discovery Gardens is nestled on more than four acres behind the Lake County Extension Center and features 24 themed gardens, including a string of lush courtyards and five specially designed children’s gardens.
